Broaching tools

Keyway broach

Tool properties
HSS

The first broaching applications can be traced back to the early 1850s, for single or double keyway cutting.

The broach has the shape of a rectangular blade with the cutting edges placed on one side, generating slots with different thicknesses and tolerances.

This broach requires the help of a bush or guide tool, in which a sliding groove is practiced. The bush adapts to the hole to be broached and the groove will act as guide and contrast during machining.

The new developments in the sector and the need to automate the process more and more have led to the creation of the keyway broaches with cylindrical body which, unlike the traditional keyway broach, looks like a cylindrical broach with an integrated fin, with the advantage that it is self-guiding and self-centering without needing the bush.
