PC-based Control for Shipbuilding

New concepts for optimised cabin control

SMM 2018, the leading international trade show for the maritime industry, will open its doors on 4 September. As specialists for PC-based control technology, Beckhoff will be demonstrating in hall B6 how shipping companies, shipyards and suppliers can achieve cost advantages with future-proof smart cabin control concepts. Beckhoff offers all the components for optimised and integrated cabin control: from the XRB eXtended Room Box and IoT Edge devices to operational monitoring with TwinCAT HMI. In addition, there are control solutions for system-integrated media technology that facilitate spectacular shows and events at sea.

Smart control for all cabins: IoT concepts from Beckhoff

Whether light, power, temperature, access control or alarm: At SMM 2018, Beckhoff will demonstrate how all cabin data can be recorded with a system-integrated IoT architecture and securely transferred to a public or private cloud via standard encryption, where they are monitored centrally. Primary systems such as heating boilers, cooling and air conditioning systems can now be controlled even more efficiently, energy consumption can be optimised and cost advantages can be achieved. TwinCAT IoT

Simplified operational monitoring with TwinCAT HMI

TwinCAT HMI makes monitoring and remote maintenance tasks even easier to implement. TwinCAT HMI speeds up the creation of a platform-independent, individual user interface for all devices. Service crews can locate error messages and alarms directly, which enables them to respond faster. TwinCAT HMI

System-integrated cabin automation with XRB and IoT Edge device

With the pre-assembled, installation-safe eXtended Room Box XRB, all room functions of the ship’s cabin can be monitored with the BC9191 Room Controller. The data is transmitted from the XRB to the Ultra Compact IPC C6015 via Ethernet. This can be used directly as an IoT Edge device and data agent. It transfers the data via standard encryption securely to the external or local cloud. For the monitoring of several cabins, an Embedded Controller from the CX series can be used.

Highly scalable and flexible: media technology with PC-based Control

From media and show control to audio and video installation and Condition Monitoring: With a system-integrated control solution from Beckhoff, a wide variety of entertainment concepts can be implemented on cruise ships. At SMM 2018 Beckhoff will provided detailed insight on how this works. Stage and Show Technology
