    Hello Ming and others - Typical Lithium alloys are 5-10% less dense then say 6000 series alloys and are about 5% stiffer. In general applications these differences do not matter. The alloys are also 3-5x more expensive which has hindered its general use. In applications like aerospace where weight is critical it has become a popular alloy in various situations.

    Lithium alloys suffer from corrosion quite easily. Lithium is a prime component of batteries and makes for an electrically unstable material. It also suffers from an interesting compression fatigue effect so is only used in areas of high tension such as the bottom skin of aircraft and one use parts such as rocker fuel tanks. Its been around since the 1920's and has steadily been improved. Regards Peter
