Hi all,
I am looking to put a 3D probe on a swingarm that I can manually flick down for probing and up and out of the way when done. Probably an over-center mechanism with a spring.
Why, you may ask? Well, I don't have an ATC spindle, just a lowly ER collet one so to get repeatable Z measurements, the probe would have to always be in the same spot when used. I do have a nice Metrol tool setter on the table but supposedly, touching the 3D probe off on the tool setter is bad practice and not consistent(?). Either way, it would likely be nicer to have it on an arm, that way it could also stay plugged in, I'd think.
Anyhow, the only such thing I have seen is the Datron probe arm but I'd love to see or hear of any DIY examples or commercial ones if you have it and also any general advice on how would you would go about this? For now, I am thinking of machining it out of 7075, perhaps 10mm, and then use some bronze bushings for a nice tight fit.
