Hi all,
I've recently gone to recommission my old Bridgeport, which has been sat around for a while... and basically every single RIFA cap has either burned out, or is about to.
So far, I've replaced the 6 on the Thyristor board, three on one of the rectifiers (the 12vdc supply ones were done a while ago), and one of the two on the MT1-1 board. Having replaced the big one on the MT1-1, I literally just noticed a smaller one, which has also split & burned. Fortunately, there was enough left of it to read the spec & I can source a replacement part.
My question is, on one of these machines, are there any *more* RIFAs that aren't immediately visible? Part count is 11 so far, with 3 different types. There's a thread somewhere (IIRC titled "smoking resistor") which also shows a blown RIFA, but I don't have those ones - suspect I already replaced them as part of replacing the 12v DC supply (a week of trying to work out why there's no "12v DC supply", only to finally discover it had run out of oil in the auto-lubricator!)
Anyway... before I order "an RIFA" (2 to be safe!) of this final type, I thought I'd check here first, in case I need yet more that I've not discovered yet.
Also - I'm pretty sure I've got a bad thyristor on my speed controller; the fault that took the machine down was a burned resistor & rifa on the thyristor boad. I replaced the RIFA, but not the resistor (because it tested OK), and I've noticed that the new RIFA has split, which suggests the fault goes a little deeper than just the capacitor. I do have a replacement speed controller, fortunately, but is it possible to source & replace the thyristors that Bridgeport (or is it KTK) used? And does anyone have a part number?
Yes... I've also replaced all of the RIFAs on the replacement speed controller that, now I've seen the other broken new RIFA, I think I'm going to switch in.
Thanks in advance!
Ade.
