    CNC lathe coordinates

Hi, I bought an Optimum lathe, that was converted to CNC, however the electronics was outdated and dead. I converted it to LinuxCNC, but I am struggling with the homing switch for Z coordinate. If a tool is in the tool holder, homing back to minimal Z position could be very dangerous. The original conversion design was to move to max. Z for homing, however the tailstock might be in the way, depending on where it was used and therefore max Z would not be reachable.

I would need some tips on what to do here.
