    Gecko G540 Touch Plate Input

    Hello,

I currently have my machine setup using ports 1 thu 4 on the Gecko G540 for Homing the X, Y/A and Z axis.
I have Mach3 configured to auto square my gantry with two limits on Y and A. This uses my 4 inputs on the G540 as shown in the attached graphic.
This works fine, and the machine auto-squares correctly.

However, I want to add an XYZ Touch Plate to my machine, but all the examples I see with the G540 are using input 4 which is already in use...

I have searched this forum and others but have not found a solution. BTW, I'm using the G540 with LPT directly from computer.

What are my options? Thank you!

    Hi,
As long as you are homing the axes one at a time you can double up on the limit switches. For instance, you can wire the X,Z,A and one of the Y limit switches in series feeding into a single G540 input. Then have the 2nd Y limit switch feed into a separate G540 input.
That way you have an input for the touch plate and a spare for something else, such as a spindle speed sensor.

    Cheers

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for the suggestion. It appears I have my switches wired in Parallel. So I could wire the Z and X in Series and open a port for the Touch Plate. I will see if I can get this to work.

No problem, glad I could help. It should work fine. I always put my limit switches in series to save on inputs.

    Cheers
