Hi everyone!!!
I am a newbie who wants to buy his first CNC Router for his workshop, and asking you more experienced people for some help for this small big step.
[apologize in advance for my not very fluent English]
Why do I want to buy a CNC?
I have a craft store about gypsum and I have decided that I want to expand my business, I want to start selling machined drywall sheets, and to do that I need a CNC.
What characteristics do I think a CNC suitable for this purpose should have?
Actually, I don't think I need an overly sophisticated CNC, the requirements I set for myself are:
- a work area of at least 3000x1200mm,I need it to have at least this size so that I can process even the largest sheets.
- an automatic tool-changing system (ATC), as I think I need to do few cuts per sheet but with different tips and without an ATC I would risk spending more time changing tools than working the sheets, but I could also sacrifice this point to be within budget.
- a good vacuum system, having to later glue the sheets, excessive dust would not allow good glue adhesion, also the drywall when cut produces a lot of dust being made up largely of gypsum.
- dust guards on all the axes, because of the fine dust that can be generated
- a liquid cooling system because of the dust? (perhaps not so necessary).
- an accuracy of less than a millimeter on all axes, this I believe is a requirement met by almost all the cnc's on the market
- the table with a vacuum pump, as I believe it can speed up the preparation for machining each sheet
- the total power of the machinery must not exceed 8kw in single phase, this is because my workshop is not provided with a three-phase system and to install it would cost me thousands of euros
What is my budget?
This is perhaps the critical point, my budget is not high, more because I don't know if there will be enough demand on this new side of the business, I want to take a risk but not too much, I don't want to spend money that I will recover in too many years, so I am thinking of a budget of 7000/10000€ (not considering the other expenses of the lab to install the machinery)
So far so good, my doubts start however when I try to look into the matter, how do I know if the company I want to trust is reliable, I have read some posts around the web and read some suggestions, but besides looking at how many years the company has been on Alibaba, looking only at verified sellers, checking reviews (without relying too much on them), checking certificates and verifying that they are manufacturers and not just resellers I have not found much else, which might be enough, but gives me very little certainty.
Also ,how can I tell if the CNC they try to sell me is of good quality? Also on the web I have found some advice, including requesting various videos of precision tests, requesting details of the various components, such as model and brand and try to get good quality components, and requesting photos and videos of the electrical wiring.
Unfortunately, I do not always get answers to this questions, sometimes I get vague answers and sometimes my questions are ignored, if I try to ask if they have customers or agents in Italy, often the answer is no or they answer me with an excuse (in my opinion), such as:we have customers in Italy but we cannot give our customers' contact details away, which might also be true, however I am also sure that many customers would be happy to give help and suggestions, and that could only work to their advantage if these people are happy with their products.
All this leads me to have a lot of doubts, for me this is a big investment and I don't want to waste it by buying a product of bad quality, I know I'm going to have to settle for it anyway becouse of my budget, but I don't want to spend all that money on an unusable machine.
Currently I'm aimed to buy from a seller found on Alibaba, this has been on Alibaba for 13 years, good reviews (for what it can count), answers many of my doubts although not all, sometimes they are a bit evasive, but from the way they talk, send quotes, photos and videos they seem reliable.
(if you want I'll share the name of the company)
I would like to know though from those who have more experience than me if you have Chinese sellers to recommend, or just to share feedback on, and if you have any useful tips in general for buying my first CNC
