Honeywell Index Sensors Part No: 922AA1Y44N050

Can anyone please explain why Honywell proximity switches were fitted to an Emco PC 50 mill, and what function did they undertake please?

It is a limit switch to prevent the machine from crashing by detecting when the travel limit of an axis has been reached.

The machine already had NC/NO limit switches fitted to it, the Honeywell sensors were used on a rotary basis, as there is a small magnet fitted to the end of the lead screw, so the sensor I guess counted revolutions.
