i made a 25 dollar ball / engravers vice that im really happy with. used mostly dollar store parts and all i needed was a drill to make it.

I've always wanted one of those, but like you, I'm too cheap to buy one. Nice job! But where do you get those steel disks and hemispheres?

I watched the video you posted here, but didn't see the links to those parts. Where on the video were they?

hy manakawari i am not into jewelry, but i had some tangency with precision engraving things; however, i looked over what you did, and i think that the most break-thorugh is not the small price, because somehow each one solves this by buying or crafting

but by using magnets, you could have achieved a great amount of moving for your table, within a low profile vice, and within a low added mass - thus such a thing is solved in mechanical vices by bigger and heavier profiled parts

by reducing magnets mounting height, you could get an even more lower profile; top vice can be made smaller/ligther ... there is always room for more, but what you did solved for the high price of such vices / kindly

ps : the way you added mass : just throw something in there and cement it ... i believe this can be made easier

ps2 : you can drop the price even more, as some items can be found in the kitchen, or with a bit of luck, right on the table
