Question Integrating Chinese VFD to Mach4 RS485

    Hey All,

Specs: Motion Control - Vital Systems Hicon Integra card

    VFD - Fuling DBZ280 220v 3phase

    Spindle - GDZ 80 2.2KW 220v 400hz

    Control - Mach 4

    Machine: Industrial CNC 3-axis router
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently upgraded my Industrial CNC 3-axis router from Mach 3 to Mach 4 via the Hicon Integra controller.

Everything was a piece of cake until it came to the spindle. It is a Fuling DZB200 VFD. I will attach a pdf of the manual to this post.

We first tried using the J12 relays to control it but we kept running into issues with that.

So we moved on to using the RS485 ports following a guide I found on here.

We are now able to send commands to it via the register diagnostics menu and see it on the modbus register.

Now the hard part... I was following the guide by Bill and his son but because this VFD is different than the Huanyang, I am struggling to get it to show up on Mach4.

Does anyone have any guidance on how to adjust the .lau file to work with our VFD?

Happy to work with someone one on one to learn / assist in the work. I would like to know what I'm missing.

Thanks everyone for all the great information. this site took me from the table saw to the computer and haven't looked back since!

    Hi,
why are you trying to use MODBUS?

Will not an On/Off relay and analogue voltage work?

    Hi Craig,

We could not get the VFD to fire up using the wiring shown on the image above. I would prefer to use the relays over MODBUS but that's the only way I was able to get the VFD to fire up and receive speed cmds. Do you see an issue with our wiring or any recommendations?

    Hi,
I still think using a set of On/Off relay contacts and a 0V-10V slowly varying DC voltage is easiest.

You need to break it down into two problems. At the moment you've just wired it up and yet you have no real idea why its not working.

In the first instance you need to set up the VFD, despite what you may think you may have made a programming error such that the VFD will not respond to the
    controls you have.

Get yourself a simple 9V battery. Hook the negative to ACM and the positive to VI. That should mean that once you correctly program one of the multifunction inputs to operate as On/Off
that the spindle will run at 90% of full speed. If you can't get the VFD to run in this manner then you need to investigate and understand why. Hooking it up to a CNC controller is premature
UNTIL you know that the VFD is able to be controlled in that manner.

    Craig
