    Machine recomendation

    Got this part:

Quantities - 10k per yr initially them increasing
    Aluminium
Looking at the top 30mm thick section lots of threaded (commonly 9/16unf) ports around the perimeter

Looking for a machine recommendation to index to each hole and turn the ports

Considering we're going down to a 3mm hole we've got high spindle speed so need the part tightly balanced

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Re: Machine recomendation

That part could be done in either a lathe or mill. I'm going to guess that the OD of the raw stock is about 100mm

For a lathe, a machine like a Haas DS-30Y would work, a horizontal machining center. https://www.haascnc.com/content/haas...ne.DS-30Y.html This would allow running raw stock to finished part in one setup.

It could also be built on a 4 axis mill, but would require two separate operations to complete, a 5 axis would eliminate one setup. The Haas mini would be a good choice. https://www.haascnc.com/machines/ver...ini-mills.html

There are many other machines that would do this job.

    hi bspear

    maybe one of this :
... M lathe + chuck capable of going excentric
    ... MY lathe ( maybe + B ) (*)
... cnc with turn cut function
    ... mill with 4th axis

for a good machine sugestions, pls share the techical drawing ( so to see sizes, tolerances, conditions, etc ) / kindly

(*) you don't need B axis being active for that part, but you may need it if you need more tools than a normal turret can hold, because a B comes with ATC
