    Question Maxnc CL2 controller repair

    Hello,

    Here is another Maxnc nightmare.

This request is out of frustration with my old machine----Maxnc 18 CL2. It is about 25 years old, has a factory upgrade to CL2. It has the zero backlash lead couplers, 4th axis. I made gib wipers to clean the ways. Replaced the heat sink with a larger one and it has a 5amp circuit breaker.

If I can not get the controller fix.......

    1. Mess with putting a Gecko drive and loose the optical encoder making it a Open loop system on it and have a wiring nightmare!

    2. Find some one to fix the original controller.

    3. Spend about $5000 buying a new Taig CNC and an old computer that runs windows.

Last week I was planning to set it up to cut down some new arrows for my bow, yes I still Bow Hike. Walk around the ND Badlands looking for a big Muly to shoot. I spin the arrow in the 4th axis, a steady rest and a block of wood with a hole to use a cut off wheel to trim the arrow.

Homed it out with X-axis on the plus side, turn it off. Set up the 4th axis, started it up but no 4th axis jog. Moved the X motor and encoder leads around, the "A" position moved on the screen but the motor did not move. Put the leads back, then got the "server error" press "M" two times to reset. No buzzing sound from the motors which they do when things are working. Reloaded the drive software. But it is dead. If the {"controlled by a "pick" a programmable chip takes it out of step and direction mode" and puts it into quadrature mode"} is bad it would be dead for sure unless someone would know how to re-program it.

So, option "2".....is there any one that can repair the controller? I am more of a nuts and bolts mechanic than an electronic fixer.

    So thanks for your time,

    Sincerely ...........1metalchipper

    Re: Maxnc CL2 controller repair

Get the Taig; I'll sell you one for less than you're estimating. It's a much better machine than the MaxNC ever was. People used to tinker with those things, trying to fix their many inherent flaws, but it was a never-ending process. By the time they were done, there was very little left that was original. It's amazing that your controller lasted as long as it did - most didn't.

I will be contacting you again with an order. I am just covering all bases to convince my boss that a new Taig is the way forward.

After 51 years of marriage, I have learned how to set things up to keep her happy. Kindly of like why I needed a different cam, headers, port the cylinder heads to get better gas mileage on my truck.
