NEW TO THE PAGE HERE IS MY HOME BUILT METAL CNC

I just joined. I have looked at the page a few times for ideas over the past year. I figured I would share my creation with everyone here. Feel free to ask any questions. I will post pics from my phone in a few.

Re: NEW TO THE PAGE HERE IS MY HOME BUILT METAL CNC

My control wiring is a mess right now because I just switched a bunch of stuff from steppers to servos. But I'm running Mach 3 with a smooth stepper no breakout board other than the smooth stepper. A hertz 2.2 spindle with an er25 collet and a delta vfd. I have thk shs 35 rails on my Y axis thk srs30 rails for my X axis and a double thk kr45 actuator for my z axis. This is the 4th machine I've built now to achieve the results I've been looking for in metal cutting and surface finishing. Im able to machine aluminum, steel, and stainless. I've finally gotten the machine stable enough to run aluminum with an 1/8 step down at 250 ipm at 15000 rpm

Great work! Interested to hear your impression on the servos you used. Which did you pick? Seems similar to the ones posted on aliexpress.

Yes there Chinese servos. 3000 rated rpm .75kw. I have one that keeps losing position when I run over 300ipm but I believe it's the belt drive skipping a tooth from the torque. I'm waiting on my last zeromax coupler and they will all be direct drive. Then I'll know for sure what the problem was. Also I had to change a bunch of settings in Mach for my computer to be able to talk to the machine fast enough.

I had to calculate the steps and match it with the correct MHz for the drive in the settings for my ess. Also had to set the buffer length to 4mhz. I also changed the step to 1 and the signal to 2 in the motor tuning. I'll have to think of what else I changed.

Well good thing you don't have to look at it.

I said it was my old machine. So it's now dead in the corner with no care to do anything except scrap it. Lol

Never had these results when running steel.
Used a sandvik 6flute super high helix finishing bit

Dillonfitz, great machine. I built a similar style machine a while ago out of Epoxy Granite. I was thinking of using similar motors, although I'd prefer to use them in analog control mode with feedback to linuxcnc. How do you find the step direction control?

    Thanks.
The drives that I use use the step and dir outputs just like stepper drives. There's a parameter within the servo drive to set the input to digital and also within he smooth stepper confit I unchecked the step/dir box and checked the cw/ccw
