rack and pinion interference issue
Hi all,
I have been slowly getting a 4x4 pro machine up and running. Ran into an issue.
the left side of the x axis pinion gear is making contact with the aluminum and does not appear to be hitting the rack square. the right side looks fine.
I took the pinion assembly back apart, everything seems as it should. I feel like with as big of a difference from left to right, the problem should be obvious??
any ideas?
thanks!

Re: rack and pinion interference issue
Can the pinion go further in on the shaft on the left side motor?
Re: rack and pinion interference issue
It''s the rails not the rack. Examine the rails
Re: rack and pinion interference issue
Ah yeah, the rails do seem to be further 'in' on one side than the other.
Re: rack and pinion interference issue
Can't tell whats going on with your pinion, your right side looks to be the same clearance as I have on both (1/8" ~ish). I would pull both sides and compare the parts.
I like what ya did with the prox switches.. What are they touching off / sensing on the front though?

you may be onto something. the left side wash is .5mm thicker than the right. this would certainly help. I will have to find a thinner washer.
As for the prox switches; i didn't like having the switches being the furthest most point on the machine, as they looked likely to get damaged.
I used a chunk of plate up front, and two redheads out back to p/u the switches.
the design was modified so the table could be flush against the wall. this saved some valuable space, and allowed me to redhead the table to the block wall for stability.
