No,
You need to join where gaps are. Do a chain selection and where the selection stops is your gap. You could join with lines or you can use trim extend.
To the OP,,the file you had uploaded originally,here it is with planar.
Ok thanks Al, just wanted to be sure I wasn't doing it the hard way :)
