I have an Okuma Lathe with a 10" Kitagawa chuck. I pulled it off to clean and lub it and was appalled how much rust was in it. The prior owner must have used water based coolants at some point. I cut dry currently and am in the process of putting Trim Sol (water based coolant) into the lathe. I'm also running this coolant in my Okuma mill. This coolant does rust metal if I let it sit. I do test it and have found that higher oil concentrations (12% Brix) will rust less but still rusts. I'm also using distilled water to mix. How do I keep this out of the Lathe chuck when turning? If it sits in that chuck all the metal mating surfaces will rust. What do you guys do? Chucks are way too expensive to get it wrong.
Thanks
Matt
