I have a Taig micromill that I would like to use with a spring-loaded engraving tool that has a 3/4" shank diameter. Does anyone know if there is a good way to do that with the Taig head stock accepting ER16 collets? If not then I will just have to buy the inferior engraving tool that comes with a 3/8" shank that I can chuck with an ER16...

ER16 collets only go up to 7/16" so no way is a 3/4" shank going to fit.
On another note, you should ask taig questions in the taig forum.

I was debating which forum was better, but decided to go with this one in the hopes that someone knew of an adaptor, different spindle head, or something… It seems like a problem that other people that use ER16 collets might have ran into in the past. Thanks,

I've seen toolholders that screw onto the spindle nose, which go up to 1/2", but since the Taig can't really cut effectively with a 3/4" tool, there aren't any made that size. But you could conceivably machine something that screwed onto the spindle nose and accepted your engraving tool. As long as its working end is a lot smaller than its shank, it would probably work.
If that's not an option, you could get another spring-loaded engraving tool here: Mini Spring Loaded Engraving Tools Engrave with a CNC Machine, 3-8 inch diameter This one has a 3/8" shank, which would fit in the Taig's largest collet.

If I understand you right this tool most likely doesn't apply significant load to the spindle. As such you should be able to use an adapter without issue. Well at least not an issue with machining loads though I'm not sure about vibrations.Quote:

John, Get the engraver they made with a 3/8 shank for you to get a good purchase on the shank in the spindle
and not try and rig up some flimsy setup.
You don't want a lot of tool projection or you'll just get a chattery mess and runout issues.
