Purchased 6040 engraver need advise.

Purchased a CNC Chinese 6040 engraver off eBay. Got a gecko 540 board coming. It has a 1.5 water cooled motor and vfd. Purchased Mach 3. What are some basic tune ups or upgrades I should do to get this running tip top shape. Kinda new to the whole engraver cnc thing.

First things first, check grounding of the spindle and controller. Mine had NO ground. Second thing was to replace the cables with shielded. If you got the pond pump, ground it. I have yet to get the spindle over 100 F after letting it run for 8 hours of constant cutting. Mine has not gotten hot. Get Mach3. Good luck and post once you get up and running.

Any recommendations on shielded cable size or brand I have some two wire that I use for work it's a Belden cable. Any special places to buy it also

The steppers are 4 wire 20-22 gauge. Spindle wire should be 4 wire 18 gauge. Wire pin 1 to ground on spindle and to green (ground) on your vfd. Providing you have a 110v setup. I don't remember where I purchased it fr

Ordered some new 18/4 shielded and new connectors to start off.

With all the many brands of tooling. What's a good brand or set of bits for all around use
