Small features on embossing die for sheet metal??? How small is possible?

Working on an embossing die set and am in the CAD stage. Some of the sections of letters are less than twice the thickness of the metal I want to emboss. If I make the male section twice the thickness smaller that the pattern and the female die section I don't have any feature left to press the metal. I am planning to make the height of the embossing equal to the material thickness (0.027 aluminum). I got a quote on a die set so there must be some way to do it. Decreasing the embossing height may help a little but it seems like only a little. Is this possible and, if so, how?
