ATC Bt30 7.5kw 380v spindle/220v 1 phase vfd availability
I've been looking at a Chinese ATC BT30 spindle (model GDL125-30-18z/7.5). The spec sheet online refers to it as 220v/380v. Another spec sheets refers to it as 380v only. Will this spindle operate on 220v 3 phase, or is it 380v 3 phase only? If 380v only, can I get a VFD that takes 220v 1 phase input and has 380v 3 phase 600hz output? While I see multiple 220v 1 phase input vfds on the internet with 220v 3 phase output, I have only seen one 220v 1 phase input with 380v output VFD. This makes me a bit leery that I can get a 220v 1 phase -> 380v 3phase (600hz) VFD. Are there other options to make this spindle work with on power originating on 220v 1 phase?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

That's a bit confusing, I guess I would ask if it's 220V or 380V. Maybe it looses something in the translation. :)

most vfds only produce up to 400hz output, others are limited to 200hz, or 120hz.
a 600hz vfd will drive a 2 pole spindle at up to 36000 rpm and a 10 hp spindle at that speed is fairly specialized and you should buy the vfd from the spindle manufacturer so as to preserve the warranty.
if you want to do this cheaply for some reason, then just buy a 220v to 400 volt 3 phase transformer and use an rpc to generate your 220vac 3 phase from 220vac single phase. run the vfd off the 400volts 3 phase to drive the spindle.
you cannot insert the transformer after the vfd for a number of reasons.
at 600hz there is a ridiculous amount eddy current and hysteresis, you may not be really buying a 10hp spindle. more like 5hp and the other 5 hp goes into heating it up at such operating speeds under full load. peak torque might be 300hz and less than half the voltage, but perhaps even more current.
anyhow, so it appears the 220/380v is just changing the wiring from wye to delta.
in any case, you're proposing to spend 2300 usd on a 31 kilogram spindle. i suggest you ask for second opinions on the practical machinist forum.
and finding a 600hz VFD might cost you as much money as the spindle.

Last question... The rep stated that this 220v model will be 600hz - will I have any trouble finding a 220v 7.5kw VFD that supports 600hz?

Most of the VFD drives for 600Hz are for 380v 7,5Kw the 7.5Kw is the problem for a 240v 600Hz VFD , there are Drives that are 240v 600Hz for lower Kw spindles
Your best if you are planning to run on 240v single phase, would be a Phase-Perfect, and a step up Transformer to the 380v VFD, a RPC is inefficient, a Phase-Perfect costs a lot more but the extra cost to run a RPC the Phase-Perfect soon makes it's extra cost not an issue

Hey Arjay. I've just started going down a similar path but am opting to use a 3KW atc 220v spindle for wood working. I was wondering what you settled on. I've also read some confusing issues with BT30 tool holder balancing and wondering what your experience might be especially up in the 15k rpm and higher range if you are cutting there. Thanks
