Drive for 23HS45-4204D-E1000
Hi,
Can you say is Leadshine HBS57 https://www.damencnc.com/userdata/file/2134_HBS57.pdf suitable for stepper https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/do...204D-E1000.pdf ?
I suppose that CLS67T should be used with this stepper https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/do...CL57T_V4.0.pdf
Is this leadshine, or other, Leadshine's drive suitable for this stepper, if it is which drive would you recommend to buy?
Best regards,
tpd

Hi,
the first Leadshine drive you linked to is a three phase stepper driver, and the stepper you linked to is a two-phase stepper....totally different.
A stepper, and most certainly a closed loop stepper, must be matched to its drive.
You will get away with matching an open loop two phase stepper to an open loop two phase drive from another manufacturer but you will be unlikely to be able to do that
with closed loop steppers. It's a good way to waste money, buying a drive only to find it's got a different encoder resolution to the stepper you've actually got and therefore will not work.
To be honest I'm not a fan of closed loop steppers. They are more expensive and don't give you enough for your money.
The manufacturers say 'more power, more torque, never misses steps'....all total BS. All steppers lose torque the faster they go, it the physics of stepper. A closed loop stepper has EXACTLY the same
problem. I think you would be better off getting good LOW INDUCTANCE steppers with a good HIGH VOLTAGE DRIVE and matching power supply than closed loop steppers.
In another thread we have been talking about a 34size stepper of 4.5Nm but only 2.5mH inductance and it performance is truly superb at 60VDC and would be even better with 80VDC or 90VDC up it.
I'll try to find the link.

Re: Drive for 23HS45-4204D-E1000
Thanks, what about the second drive, is it suitable for this motor? Can you recomment Leadshine's drive for it, I don't need a cheap drive with software in Chinese and no related information, it is to complicated for the beginners.
Which is the best software for DIY milling for beginners which i could use to learn the basics?
Re: Drive for 23HS45-4204D-E1000
Thanks, but I want to build a machine with what I have, the only thing I am missing are drives and knowledge
Re: Drive for 23HS45-4204D-E1000
Hi,
well if you want the existing closed loop stepper to work then you need the matching drive, no matter what brand it is. You cannot assume that a Leadshine drive will work
with anything other than a Leadshine stepper.
Open loop...yes, then I suspect you'll be able to mix and match, closed loop no.
That suggests if you use the stepper but WITHOUT the encoder, ie open loop, then you could use any of the many two phase open loop drives.
