Backing up Control Parameters & Settings on VF3 1998

I have a Haas VF3 year 1998. I tried the directions posted by Geof as follows but it said function locked? Whats going on?

List
PAR (now f2 and f3 should be visible)
Type Serial number followed by .par
F2

Help?

I think somewhere in the Settings there is something about locking different functions. There is also Setting 7 for Parameter Lock.
