I am not sure Jon, I remember something about warnings, I don't think it affected the build, I posted my Hex file somewhere, I thought it was on this thread but it may be on the other Elm Chan thread, I modified it to start in servo mode by default, so that a reset will clear a fault and the drive will start up again, it works well.Quote:

Jon, Are you using the tiny2313 or 90s2313?
Tried assembling it myself and I don't think you have to worry about the warnings.

Well I finally got my tiny2313's and built the controller part (haven't got to the H-bridge yet). I downloaded PonyProg v1.17h and built the programming adapter here http://www.lancos.com/e2p/betterSTK200.gif and got missing chip or unrecognized chip error, after messing around checking connections and so forth, I went and downloaded the latest beta version and everything worked like it was supposed to and I'm now talking to the controller. Now for more hardware!

Hi,
My first post here.
I got elm servo drive running , with a LM6203 as H bridge.
The power is of course limited, but as a test very helpful.
To be able using the servo motors i have , more power is needed.
Is there someone here who has build a version with IR2110 and N channel fet's ? That way it should be possible to use 80v and a few amp to drive the motors.

I think there are quite a few who have built higher power versions of the ELMCHAN...
I've a version with ir2184 and irf540's if your interested....

Soon i hope to post my project here if it is working ... the job is 95 % done :)

Just to add to this a little, I have a friend who has modified the Elm code to include a "D" value in the servo loop, as those of you who have working versions will know the standard code is a PI servo loop only. It does work very well though, I cannot fault its operation in any way, but I have a threaded rod machine, I think with a rack and pinion or ballscrew machine having a D value would be very helpful.
I have programmed the chips and hope to plug them into my cards soon, I will keep you all posted.
Also I plan to make another board layout as open source, using the keep it simple approach, I will post layouts once successfully tested.

Here is my rendition of the the servo board...
It's in eagle format, you will need the latest version 5 to open it...
There are a few specifics on this board for my application...
1) power is supplied from pc psu, hence the molex connector, however it has the wrong foot print, the correct library is on my pc at work...
the whole project is mounted in a pc case as well...
2) the S/D interface is non-standard... I added an error signal on pin 3...
this triggers the e-stop on my BOB...
3) the rs232 is on a separate board... as tuning is generally a one shot deal..
4) there is no optical isolation, it's all on the bob...
I'm sure there are more than a few problems with my layout... perhaps someone more qualified than I could point them out...

However... I'm not sure how to handle the the Estop condition of the spindle ...
Whether I should let it free run on Estop or hard stop with power dump...

In Belgium it is difficult to find IR2184.
So i tried with IR2110 , part is working.
The lower side of the bridge without problem , the high side turns off
way to slow.
So i deal with a lot of cross conduction.
There will be a design problem that i overlook.
Still work to do, the solution will be found.
For the original 12v version of the ELM controller , i made a board.
Then removed the fet's and the dead control .
With some jump wire's attached a L6203 , works fine, but not enough power.
My home made table mill still runs with steppers.
I have servo motors , and hope to be able to replace the steppers.
Someone here who has experiance with IR2110 bridge drivers?

I have a similar case here in Korea... I can find the ir2184 but not the ir21844...
It seems IRF parts are generally hard to find here...
A few days ago I took a list of about 8 IRF mosfets to the electronics market but not one was available...
They were all specified as preferred and active on the IRF website...
I ended up ordering some Fairchild fdb6030bl which I pill pick up today ...
These are logic level FETs, for an unrelated project...
Yesterday, I just found that Korea has a local FET manufacturer KEC...
In the future I will try to select something local first...
Anyway, enough of my ranting...
Rony, please post your schematic, I'm sure there is someone here who will spot the problem...
From looking at the datasheet for the ir2110, I see there is no dead time generation...
And as the tiny2313 has no dead time between its outputs, there are few choices then...
Either insert the dead time before the driver or after the driver or port the code to a tiny26 which has built in dead time...
Easiest seems to be adding the deatime after the driver and before the gate...
To insert deadtime, you want the gate to turn on slow and turn off fast...
Here is a schematic that should do the trick...
However, it would be great if someone more knowledgeable than I could confirm this...
You can also check this thread on DIY Audio, it's mostly about inserting the deadtime before the driver (between the 2313 and the driver) ...

Hello,
I did some further test with the IR2110.
When i use a separate power suply , thus above the upper rail voltage,
for the top fet's.
The on and of swiching seems to be ok.
So i must be doing something very wrong with the bootstrap design.
Any way , i keep beeving in finding the solution

Hello,
You have no motor movement?
Do you use version smc3 ?
In that case the 3 status led's should indicate a part of the problem.
But first things first , is the processor running?
Do you have a serial connection with AT tiny?
If that is all ok, are the 2 pwm outputs present ?
If ok , is there signal after the dead time control?
The output stage itself , is the last part of the chain.
If you could be a bit more specific , help would be easier.
