Brazing Cast Iron Weather vane
I'm trying to repair this directional(East-West) cast iron part. I'm using brass fluxed rods. I'm getting soot buildup on the piece and no attachment. Setting Acetylene to 5 psi and Oxygen to 30 psi. First attempt I got it connected. No soot. Part was not lined up properly, and ran out of oxygen, so parts were disconnected and lined up and clamped. Settings were the same, but soot all over cast iron. Pieces were pre heated in oven to 475 f. Torch was applied to cast iron to get it red. Fluxed rod applied to cast iron and heated with torch.
Any guidance will be appreciated.

Re: Brazing Cast Iron Weather vane
Sounds like you didn't adjust the flame correctly. But when brazing, the flame should be slightly carburizing. Blue with just a slight ''tail'' on the flame. Normally I would set 5 and 5 on the regulators depending on what size tip you are using.

Thanks for the information. I'll try that today.
