I'm going to guess that there is no significant difference in modern servo drives, all of them are going to hit the commanded position. The real accuracy is dependent on the leadscrew and backlash. For accuracy, a closed loop system with linear encoders on the table is the best, just depends on your needs.
Actually, both systems are closed loop, the loop is just not closed in the same place. The Viper 250 drive closes the position loop, so the Centroid control will be unaware of any position errors. The practical result is the control will continue unless the Viper triggers a fault.
ALLIN1DC closes the position loop on board, so the Centroid software can read the position error in real time. The live tuning or other software features could be used to view the real motor control error. Other features such as axis load meters will also be available.
The conversion to step and direction to control the Viper may reduce accuracy or maximum rate. This would depend on how the step pulse to encoder count ratios are set in the Viper.
Consider that the ALLIN1DC is a complete solution where everything is designed to work together. Mixing ACORN and other manufacturer's parts will require more effort from the installer.
