Makita trim router on 3040 CNC. My take on the process.

I have had this machine for about 2 years. I have used it very little as I was not impressed with the 200 watt spindle. I had bought it to engrave aluminium and some 3D images on wood. The stock spindle I found to have a lot of play and really had to slow shallow cuts while engraving aluminium. This is an active project that I have not finished but I will update as I go. I am spending time sitting with a family member in poor health and have been working on this as I have time. I started by cutting the stock mount to the last "rib" and then removed the ribs. Then I turned a sanding drum for my drill press that was the same size as the Makita trim router, and used it to shape the "U" shape in the spindle carriage to the right size of the Makita. Then I used some 1 inch straps of 14 ga stainless steel that I got at a sheet metal shop to make a clamp. Using a 2.5 inch pipe as an anvil. This Is my first post and I may delete and redo if it comes out weird. But will update as I go. I was hesitant to cut the factory carriage as there is no turning back once it is done. I have took all measures I had available to me to keep every thing as square and true as possible.

It was a little tight. I had to take a razor knife to the embossed makita logo.

But it fits and works great just gotta get some 1/4 inch engraver bits and I'll be back at it.

Looks good. The Makita router seems to get good reviews. And it should be easy to replace if you wear it out. It might be a good idea to keep a spare set of brushes if you use it a lot.

Thanks for the good Idea. I ordered a Elaire Corporation 1/8" collet for it. Hope to get a little testing done soon. Time is stretched thin as always.
