Unrecoverable memory error
Hi there,
VMC 15
1998
CNC 88HS
Did not use the machine for about a month.
When attempted to power it I got the following on the moitor:
======================SPACE BAR FOR NEXT MENU
UNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 01CC
USE THE 'NE' CMD TO CLEAR MEMORY
However neither the controller nor the machine does not respond to pressing any key.
Any suggestions ?

I have the same error "ÜNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 8600' and the space bar nor any key respond. Any recomendations are very welcome. Thanks.
Re: Unrecoverable memory error
Hello.
I´m not familiar with your machine but I have found that some memory boards rely on batteries to keep certain information. Perhaps it´s the source of your problem. I think it´s worth checking.
Now, if it is, DO NOT JUST REMOVE THE BATTERIES. It might be possible that a certain procedure needs to be followed in order to replace them. I have seen controls left totally unusable by removing all the batteries at once.
Note: the reason those controls were left unusable is not because of damage to the controls but because no programmer was found and no one knew what information was to be programmed.
Regards.
Re: Unrecoverable memory error
(SOLVED) Unrecoverable memory error
Solved (without having to reinitialize the memory): I hope this may help others.
We ran into the same issue, where after booting the Fadal up a month after the machine sat, we too had this displayed, “Unrecoverable memory error (at memory address _ _ _ _)”
We resolved the issue by bring in a different program (uploaded it) into resident memory by way of the add-in expansion memory card we purchased and installed years ago. We found the memory card has been worth it’s cost due limited memory size and the unexpected occasional glitches along the way. (The expansion cards run about $700 each; but has saved our bacon numerous times).
Although we backup to and retrieve (bring in) programs via this expansion card, I believe the approach of loading a program via the handshake through the serial port would help override whatever location in memory the Fadal is stuck at.
The issue was resolved (after days of panic) and none of our programs were corrupted or lost. Should anyone need the brand name/company of the expansion card, reply and I will revise my submission.
Below is the command line input we use with the particular expansion card we installed. The name of the program is arbitrary but I wanted to be thorough:
CD,10
TA,O_ _ _ _.FD2+
(The PLUS symbol is required with that brand of expansion card. The “TA” signifies tape input)
...
This is my first post and I hope this may help anyone in need.
