M Code for Tailstock?
Does anybody know if there is an M-Code that can extend/retract my tailstock. I have a Fanuc 10 control. I know that M-Codes are usually different from machine to machine, but if anyone knows a generic M-code or one they use or the parameter to change to set an M-Code for this, that would be great. Thanks.

We got some moris with 10, and the uses m24 and m25.... On our other fanuc controls the same m code starts the chipconveyor... Try them..

on our Lathe we just have a switch to toggle for extend and retract but in the program it's automatic and it's binary code. Our Mills just have a hand crank to feed out and in but we could have ordered and air operated tailstock (with foot switch) but it was too much more money. You didn't state if it was lathe or mill with a 4th axis rotory indexer with a tailstock.

Oh, sorry. I have a lathe with a hydraulic powered tail stock. It is extended and retracted using a toggle switch. The problem is that the program I am running requires the tail stock be extended during certain operations and retracted during others. As of now, I am using an M0 and manually hitting the switch when needed. I have heard that there is the possibility of an M-Code that could achieve this same effect. I tried the m24/25 with no luck.

I'm not that familar With the Fanuc lathes but it would seem to me there should be a code for that to be introduced while writing the program. Is your control conversational?
-
I uses tailstock for the same operation, hydralic tailstocks can be operated both with footswitch and with program.. I uses m78/79 on the 18IT, but that is machine spec and will prob not work for you. WHo is the machine builder?

what make make is your m/c - it does vary make to make.
you could try M12, M13, M14, M15 each in turn in MDI - this set moves the tailstock forward/back and activates quill out/in
M78/M79 is also a good bet

Alright guys, M12-15 no go, n78-79 no go. Its a Wasino lj-103m (older model, going the way of the dinosaurs) with a Fanuc 10T control. And it is not conversational.

whey hey, lets go through the complete list!!! try M50/M51 or failing that have you an operators manual with the m code list ( not the yellow fanuc book )

Unfortunately, all I have is the yellow fanuc book, both the Operators manual and maintenance manual and m50-51 has no effect.

Hi, on my Mazak T32 control it's :
M31 - Tailstock up and M32 - Tailstock back.
i know it's probably no use but might be worth a try just in case !

ahhhhhhhhhhhh...... here we go then... my Okuma uses M55/M56 and if i remember correctly the HAASle used to use M21/M22.
hopefully you are not activating other things!!! also how do yoou position the T/s body ? ( by hand and bolt in place or does the m/c pick up and place or is it independant??)

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner! The winner is... M31-32. Thanks for everybodys help in resolving this mystery. You just made my job running these so much better. I love this website. Oh, by the way ST, I bolt in place, why do you ask?
-
Glad to hear mistery solved......yeah the web site here is A OK.... tons of help.....

well if your m/c picks up and places the T/s that would need M code, and usually these codes are close to the ones that activate the quill.
excellent news on the M31 working!!
