6061 Aluminum help
I am looking to do a small machine build that will require machining .75" 6061 Aluminum on a DIY cnc build. I have already done some tests and found that I can machine aluminum successfully.
My question is this. I have several choices of 6061, flat bar, flat plate & cast aluminum plate. I can get the size for what I need in any of these types, but I don't know which to get. I will be doing most of my machining with a 1/4" coated 3 flute EM with some of the thru holes with a 1/8" coated EM.
Any help would be welcome. Here is the site that I am looking to purchase from.

Re: 6061 Aluminum help
The cast jig plate are usually already pre-machined thickness. Between flat bar and plate is all determined on the size of your finished part.

Re: 6061 Aluminum help
Hey, in my experience the flat/cast plates could have a bit of a bend (especially if they are not handled/shipped by the supplier properly). It also depends upon how big of a piece are you getting.
cheers

Re: 6061 Aluminum help
"Plate" is always over sized.......so that you can machine to the actual thickness........Where "stock" could actually be under or exactly the thickness ordered.
Like said earlier, the part you are making should determine if you can get away with stock or if you need to order plate....
And also like said earlier...the jig plate is usually already made flat and usually used for jigs.....that will not be machining thickness but you want it flat and parallel.
