I'm new here, (forgive my ignorance and stumbling around) and I'm considering a new or used CNC for cutting plywood parts to build small boats for children.
Actual boats, using trolling motors.
I'd like something idiot proof, easy to use, and preferably able to cut full 4 x 8 sheets of plywood.
Any recommendations?

bakelite vacuum T slot table , you can choose vacuum pump +seal line to hold plywood , or you choose clamp , a bigger power vacuum pump is necessary for bigger ,thicker plywood.

No mention of where you are, plywood details (type, thickness etc) or budget but a full size machine for whole sheets is more expensive especially with rigidity for that size.
Software to draw/generate G-code:
1. Fusion360 is popular
2. vCarve Pro is also popular but will cost $
3. SimplyCam MR-Soft Nc Software Tools is very good at about $50.00
4. Freeware (open-source) based on Linux is also popular
Hardware:
1. Build one - can be an arduous and time consuming process
2. Kits - quite a few around - have a look through this forum, some are better than others
3. Second hand machines can be a bargain or a lemon - try to see it in action before buying. A worn machine can be expensive to fix up.
4. Made to order - Chinese typically
There are some different opinions about a lot of the Chinese machines. They all "seem" to have common specifications as if they are all manufactured at a base level in the big "Chinese router frame plant" and then customised by the multitude of different "vendors".
The Blue Elephant machines look interesting. There are many "vendors", some seem better than others. Many Chinese machines seem to be "assembled kits" and it is often necessary to "clean them up" and align them before any serious use. YMMV.

I bought a machine from Remax about a year ago and after a few quirks and issues am very happy with it. They'll also build custom machines but be very careful about describing what you want. Use diagrams, pictures and be sure they get what you want right before starting the build.
