Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
Hello everyone. Does anyone know what can cause the machine to not move in rapid or feed mode when the spindle is not turning? We checked parameter 3708 SAR bit and it is off, we checked stroke limits and safety zones and they are not used. The machine homes properly after power up (uses dogs). Tool changer works properly. We checked all Parameters and Keep Relays and compared them to the original printouts kept in the control behind the machine and all are good. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's also in Feed Per Minute, not Feed Per Rev so that isn't a factor either and wouldn't cause non-rapid moves with the spindle off anyway.
Time to pull my hair out.
Fanuc iO control.
3 axis VMC
Thanks

I thought there was an M-code to enable movement with the spindle stopped?

Dry Run is off. Also when Cycle start is pressed the machine moves a small amount for about a half second then stops but the Cycle Start lamp is still on. Diagnostics show it is still in Cycle Run. Pressing the Feed Hold lights the Feed Hold button then pressing Cycle Start again moves the machine for about a half second then repeat over and over.

Hey dhardt, you may be on to something. I just now turned on Dry Run and the machine moved normally but in the override federate as it should and it finished the program block without stopping but with Dry Run off the axis' will stop after a half second or so. hmmm
Re: Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
After speaking with a Doosan service tech, he said it's quite possibly a board issue. in 30 years of Doosan maintenance, he has never heard of our problem.

Most DMV -VMC Doosan's or Daewoo's need an M-code to allow you to preform this and should be in your option list or M-Code list with the machine

Sounds like ypou have an issues with the Rapid Override signals. Dry Run goes as fast as what is set in parameter 1410. Not sure how your override signals are being handled. Check the ladder for G14.0 and G14.1 to see if they are both on. When both of these are on you are at 0% override. If they are both off then you at 100%

G14.0 and G14.1 are 0 (not triggered at 100%) and they switch on and off depending on where my Rapid Override is set (0%, 25%, 50%, 100%) so that seems to be working correctly with the spindle on or off.
G12.2, G12.5 & G12.6 are triggered when the spindle is not running and stay triggered and the machine stops. When the spindle is on, those same bits are triggered for a split second and return to zero and the machine runs normally.
The test program I am running is G0 G91 X5.0 with and without the spindle on.
Re: Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
have you tried m184 as this allows the movement of the axis without the spindle turning m185 reverts back to spindle rotation required when axis is feeding ....
this does not apply to rapids however, but just a thought as its a free test you can try and something extra you can rule out.

Gavin,
Our Doosans do not accept the M184 or M185.

Try using G98 inches per minute vs G99 inches per revolution.

Oops didn't see that you already tried that.

Re: Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
Ok I found out when M65 is commanded, the machine moves normally but M30 or RESET disables it. Sooooo, what the heck is M65/M66 on a Doosan Mecatec ???
Re: Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
Machine defaults to G98 and is/was during all these trials. Thanks anyway.
sigh, I'm thinking something on the main board went south.
Re: Doosan VMC fanuc - no rapid or feed when spindle off
What is the machine's serial number? (found on the placard, located near the main power switch)
What is the Electrical Hardware version? (found on the placard, located near the main power switch)
What is the ladder version?
Press the <SYSTEM> hard key
Press the <PMC> softkey (depending on Fanuc model)
Press the <PMCPRM> or <PMCCONFIG> (depending on Fanuc model)
Press the <TITLE> softkey
There is a field: PROGRAM DRAWING NUMBER (it is in the middle of the page)
It contains a LONG alphanumeric sequence, separated by a comma or colon...and then another alphanumeric sequence
I need the WHOLE code...everything in that field.
From this information, I can see why the machine does anything and everything related to IO
Edited due to slight deviation from normal: Mecatec information might not be in the requested locations.
