Reference buttons dont work path pilot 1100 ser3

I just picked up an 1100 series 3 mill. I power up path pilot, undo estop then power on machine, then hit reset. When I press the ref buttons nothing happens. I can power off the machine, etc reset the control move the machine manually to the limit switches using the status Limit leds then hit ref which would work I suppose, but the machine does not do this automatically. None of the limit switches are stuck.

Is it normal to reference these machines manually to the limit like this? It looks like they should do this automatically from reading the manual but maybe poorly written?

Is there a global setting that stops automatic referencing? I searched online and didn't see anything.

For some reason, the control defaulted to having the LIMIT SWITCH setting not checked in settings. Now works normally.
