I am getting the error message:
Incorrect data read in ATR from CM: 5 times the plugin will not function"
We reloaded Mach 3, the ESS software and ran the SKU. We also tried a new ethernet cable. Nothing has helped. I am wondering if the Smooth Stepper 'has lost its step'.
Has anyone had this problem?

I use an ESS and have never had that sort of problem. I would suggest place your post on the Warp9TD forum, after all that's what it's for,
supporting customers.

That thread doesn't provide a specific resolution, but does bring up the question of what specific release of Mach 3 you reloaded.
