Multicam 44 plus Newbie needs help!!! CNC Router suddenly stopped working.

Hi All.

This is my first post having just bought my first CNC router. She's old but sturdy. 1997 sort of build date I believe.

Its a Multicam44plus. High freq spindle, With en route 5 software preinstalled on a tower. Have used it around 10 times whilst learning how to use the machine in general.
Today we turned it on and all we got from the controllers Lcd was a blinking first character. We normally get some words (cant quite remember what) 'Cipher multicam' etc. Then we can home the machine and send the file over from Enroute5.

We have opened up the main control box and checked a couple of the tiny fuses (the ones we could see) to no avail.

Its almost as if the main controller computer bolted to the bed needs a reboot, no matter how many times we turn it on or off it wont boot.

If anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong we would really appreciate the help.

Thanks for your reply. We managed to get the control panel to liven up again, but not for long. We managed to find a second hand board which had a 19200 baud rate with even parity. (i dont know what that means by the way) but I know the one we had was 8700? with even parity. So anyway managed to change the coms setting to match and send the file via en route software as we used to. However the new board obviously had a different version on it as the control unit now asked to fit the tool bit which we had chosen on the pc (eg 5mm end mill) . BUT none of the buttons, or combinations of buttons would allow us to confirm tool change and proceed to cutting.

Whatever our first issue was, power surge, maybe, has happened again and we now only get the blinking cursor. Is the best bet going to be fitting a newer control unit and aftermarket board?
