HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
I have a Haco Type PPES 30 135 which has an old PC15 control system.
The machine is mechanically sound but the electronics are tempremental.
It is a 1990 machine so I would like to upgrade the controls.
I have been chasing Haco for the last while to see if they can offer a solution
but I find them to be hard work. They do not seem to be interested
I am thinking now about doing my own retrofit using a PLC and HMI with a new servo drive and motor for the backgauge and possibly new linear scales for Y1 and Y2.
The hydraulics are something I need to figure out too, I have a manual but it is not quite correct for the machine I have.
Have any of you ever done this? I do PLC and HMI controls for a living so I have no worries about that end of things, but I am nervous about the hydraulic control side of it.
If nothing else, I plan on documenting the project in this thread so that it may help someone else.
Re: HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
Sounds like a fun project. The hydraulic logic is not too different than electrical logic. The keys are the servo valves. Logically they work like any servo drive. So with linear encoder feedback and electronic gearing it would logically work just like a gantry axis with dual drives.
The servo valve controllers normally take a standard +/- 10V analog input and can be operated with any motion controller.

This is what it looks like as of today.

This is the operator interface.

And the control panel. Aint it purdy.

Looks like that panel needs some love :D
I built a 3 axis servo back gauge (ok steppers but who's counting) for my press brake. I'll get it wired up one of these days.
This one is also hydraulic, but the top ram is fixed and the bottom ram moves. European style.

Looking forward to your build
Re: HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
Jim That looks a nice bit of machine work for the back guage. Am I right in saying it is attached to the bottom tool and moves with it?

Re: HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
I have to figure out how this works and figure out how I can connect it to my PLC.

Thank you. Yes, attached to the bottom tool.

Looks like a standard glass scale with a 5V quadrature square wave output, 20 micron resolution. Should interface with any motion controller encoder input.

Re: HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
I have made some progress on this job. I am going to gut the panel and fit a PLC which will take the signals from 2 new linear transducers, I am thinking of buying these.
Re: HACO Pressbrake controls upgrade.
I am having issues in trying to figure out the Hydraulics on this machine. I do have a set of manuals but they do not describe fully how this system works. I am missing the part about how the levelling and synchronisation is done, particularly the wiring. I am working my way through it. If anybody has any documentation for this system and can maybe copy some of it for me I would be very appreciative.
