hi guys, I want to use a turret held, tight fit 1 inch bar puller to pull bar in. My problem is if I program the chuck to open with g80, the control gives me a chuck error and program stops, it will not move z axis after g80 open jaws cmd. How do I disable this error so program will keep running, Also what is the gcode to make it go back to start of program, and repeat program? thanks in advance...
Do you have the bar feed and the software/hardware option from the OEM or are you trying to use a short bar with a thru hole chuck??

Look at the setting on system parameters 90 to 93. This is the position to un-clamp the chuck ( or turret) I think, not clear in the manual. The X axis has to be at the top of the travel before the chuck will un-clamp. I am not sure about the G80 code it was used for cancel a can-cycle on a machining center. I could not find a programming manual for your machine. It may not work if you don't have the barfeed option.

On the acramatic 850 the G code reference shows actually an M80 for chuck jaws out, and a M81 for chuck jaws in, which is what i have but it acts as dj described. Not sure where to look for barfeed option, new at lathes. i have an M62 barfeed pusher on and M63 off, but its a royal products turret mounted bar puller, if it would just do what I say it would work fine haha, thanks. So, did you look at the parameters I suggested? Did you try to put the X-axis all the way to the top prior to un-clamping the chuck with a G80? Does this lathe have 2 switches at the back of the chuck actuator that tell the control that the chuck is open or closed? Let me know.

It looks like you're in the feed per revolution mode you might have to switch to feed per minute.
Was the spindle stopped when you moved the puller onto the part?
It would help if you showed a little more of the program.
It would benefit everyone on this site if you could respond to the suggestions that are given to you. We are trying to offer you FREE help to correct the problem you have with your machine. If you don't respond to our suggestions, then no one who may have the same problem could benefit. As I pointed out that G80 is not for unclamping the chuck it is a M80 and M81 code. Did you try any of the suggestions, it would be nice to know what worked and what didn't.

Yes i had it stopped, gave a little more before and after, thanks Ted, not sure which of us your talking to Mike, but my machine does have the switches.

To make my bar puller work this is how i programmed it. you have to use G94 with an IPM feed rate
