Weird moves on the lathe ( please help solve this) (see pictures)

I will try to explain the best I can but this is really weird.

I can only move 1 axis at a time no matter how I connect both stepper drivers.

Normal connection

Z+ and Z minus are working as they should
No move on the X axis

If I switch signal cable ( X signal on Z stepper driver and Z signal on X stepper driver)

No move on the Z axis
X axis become Z axis

If I switch power cable going to stepper motor (signal cable in normal position x signal to X stepper driver --Z signal to Z axis driver)

Z axis become X axis
No move on the X axis

If I switch both, signal cable and power cable (from X to Z and Z to X)
X axis move
No move on the Z axis

Seems X axis stepper driver has problem.
