Tool change preselect into ATC shifter Mazak Vortex

Hi,
Does anyone know if you can reduce toolchange time on a Mazak Vortex (1400 II, with Fanuc 31i control) by actually having the next tool ready in the ATC shifter arm? I understand calling next tool will I think rotate drum magazine, but it doesn't I think put the tool into the shifter itself? Toolchange takes approx 30 seconds currently with no preselction of any kind.

Our Mazatrol Matrix and 640 Pro's all have the next tool ready and waiting in the atc arm and the spindle tool magazine pocket called up ready foe the return after the exchange. Maybe a Fanuc thing?

Yes, it's my mistake. I tried just calling the tool in MDI and then later giving M6 and yes the tool is indeed already in the shifter as desired. Thanks.
