What determines how a Stepper is wired
Trying to get my head around the 2 modes of Stepper wiring, 'Differential' and 'Single End'
I know the differences in the way they are wired, but what determines which mode you choose?
BOB is MB2 and stepperdrivers are YOC556 ( I can't find a manul for this particular Motor Driver. )
I know the MB2 can use either mode. Doe the motor Driver have to be compatible to use a particular mode?
The Stepper itself as well?
Steppers are 57BYGH76-3A/150N.cm on a X61500GT CNC Router.
I'm using sheilded cable but the pairs are NOT twisted as far as I know.

Differential mode is more noise resistant and therefore should be used whenever possible (that is, if both the breakout board and the motor driver support it).
The steppers themselves do not matter.
Twisted pair is better, but a non-twisted shielded cable would work too.

Thanks, I guess I have to find out of the YOC556's suport Differential Mode or not.
I found a manual for the M556GT which is supposed to be an equivalent. Will check it out.

I found the problem.
My Steppers were driving a short distance and then stopping. The same in the other direction.Every press of the jog key produced the same results.
It turned out that some lucirious figures had appeared in the motor tuning window in Mach 3. I don't understand how.
They must have been stalling after a short time, but I could not tell.
I put the original steps, speed and acceleration figures back in and it all works fine.
The steppers seem to run alot quieter now.than when the AKZ250 was fitted......very happy.
Wired in Differential mode as well.
