Heat treating D2 with helicoil inserts?
We have a D2 part that needs to be heat treated to 60 Rockwell that has two m6 helicoil inserts in it, will they be alright if we heat treat it with them in there? Standard practice for d2 heat treating is to doubble temper correct?

Re: Heat treating D2 with helicoil inserts?
Hello Johnsmitty,
I would send the part to heat treatment without the helicoil inserts and add them after the temper. But I havenĀ“t had a piece in such situation, this would be my approach.
Please let us known what was your call and the output.
Greetings

You need to take them out before heat treatment, if you don't and they are a good at what they do, then they will take them out
Double temper sometimes more than a double temper can be used, depending on how refined you want the core
