use Enable terminals with a toggle switch as a stand by mode
I am using a nema 34 stepper to drive the lead screw on my HF 9 x 20 lathe. It is used strictly as a variable speed motor. i need to know how to wire the enable terminals with a toggle switch to use them to put the driver in basically a stand by mode. Also i will use the standard gears to cut threads When i am using the gears will the stepper generate electricity and damage the driver? Dan

That should work OK.

Yes, the stepper will become a generator and most likely will damage your stepper drive. I would put a plug on the motor cable so it is easy to disconnect when using the geared system. Make sure the power supply to the stepper drive is off when connecting/disconnecting the motor cable.
