Can anyone recommend a tool for shaping cricket bats from English Willow?
Trying to get an easier to work with finish on a cricket bat design. Just not sure if I should be using a bull nose or flat or what sort of bit to get the best results. Anything rounded seems to leave too much in the way of grooves to smooth out. Have also tried horizontal movement but the cuts seem to add additional problems with the spine.

Hi X17 - If you have a 3 axis machine definitely not a flat bottom tool. I make hydrofoils and use a 1/2" round tool. A veining router bit with a 1.0 - 0.5mm stepover and that cleans up very easily. Peter

Use as large a ball-nose cutter as will fit in the spindle. If the cusps between passes are too large, space the passes closer together. Cut lengthwise, with the grain.
