toolpath alternative needed!!!
hello everyone,
this is my first post onto here hoping I might find some help with my current issue. I regularly run 2 different axyz 4008 (circa 2000 and 1998) both with amc0004g controller boards The problem that I'm having is with my current version of toolpath its the last version available for my machines without upgrading the boards inside my machines, and im looking for either an alternative to toolpath that works a bit better or a cheaper controller board upgrade then what axyz offers. toolpath is just doesnt fit my needs when it comes to the more detailed shapes i use it to cut. I would like to find a program that can run easily on my machines that can also take the place of enroute and toolpath. any suggestions you guys have on the matter would be greatly appreciated thank you and have a nice day
Re: toolpath alternative needed!!!
You might try Fusion 360, will replace both Enroute and Toolpath. It's free to small businesses and hobby users. They have a post processor for axyz, but I don't know if it's compatible with your boards, but can be modified to output what is needed.
The other option is to just do a full controls upgrade, there are a lot of options available, but I don't know how the cost would compare to just upgrading your boards from axyz.
Re: toolpath alternative needed!!!
I believe that "Toolpath" is the name of the control software. So Fusion 360 will NOT replace it.
There are a lot of options in new control software, but I would expect that all will require you to replace some electronics, as I don't know if anything else will work with your electronics.

Glad you caught that, thanks Gerry. :)
Re: toolpath alternative needed!!!
thanks for your responses. yes, toolpath is the program and I'm ok with changing out some components to get a better program working on it. but then my next question would be what are some decently priced options for a hardware upgrade for my machines because I really don't want to buy everything brand new from axyz
Re: toolpath alternative needed!!!
Does it use stepper motors, or servos? If servos, are they analog, or do they take step and direction signals?
Re: toolpath alternative needed!!!
both of them are stepper motors.
