If the control has the network card, you can network it but it would only be to a much older system (think Windows 98)
The reason most people program the manner which you stated is, for panel processing, the parametric control capabilities were
very powerful and in most instances people did not need a CAM option.

As it has FTP capability, it is accessible to any computer. I was able to get my 1997 Biesse Rover 322 talking on the network last night, and am now able to FTP from my Windows 10 laptop to the filesystem,
