Newbie needing project/servo help

I'm trying to design a small system to turn a knob. I need to program a servo to turn a knob a specified number of times and return to the starting position when a set point is reached. I know NOTHING about this stuff - is there a small kit I can buy that can accomplish this? I imagine I'll need a multidirectional servo with a fair amount of torque, a small programmable board with a way to wire up a take action when a liquid volume is reached or temp. Also, need it to run on a battery. Hope this makes sense. NO idea where to begin....
