Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
hi
i obtained these older labvolt cnc machines and dont know how to update firmware
i have the firmware file but getting it onto the machine is a mystery
no usb
no LAN
no floppy
mine were manuf around 2000
the festo reps keep telling to use the floppy drive which my machines do not have
can someone help me?
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Did you iopen up the machine?
Is there any sort of connector hidden inside?
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Yes i have openedmall the machines...nothing inside that i can see as far as floppy drive etc
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
So how do you load CNC programs ( G code)? There has to be some sort of electronic connection? aside from floppy drives.......electronic connectors like parallel port connectors or DB9 connectors or ISA slots?
How about posting pictures of the electronics and the cabinet?
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????

Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
As you will find out there will be a slim chance of interacting with the original motion controller. For a variety of reasons. Pictures of the machine and control boxes if possible always help.

Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
thank you but i am looking for someone who specifically is familair with this exact model cnc machine as it is not typical and is proprietary
labvolt 5400 5500 or 5600
thanks
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
There are people here making an effort to help you and you are telling them to go away.
Maybe you should call Labvolt and ask them? It took less than a second to google them and find their website.
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
i appreciate your help however labvolt will not assist me this has been a multi month project and its been very difficult these are proprietary machines im looking for sonmeone who is familair with this specific machine.. ..if someone has one of these machines and is familair with how to update firmware on older model please let me know thank you
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
actually company name is festo didactic now..they really dont know anyhting about the older labvolt/ D&M machines..... unfortunately
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
I guarantee there's nothing special inside that controller. If you took some pictures and provided some information some of the knowledgeable folk around here could almost certainly help you. As mentioned, given the age of the machine, you might need a modern motion controller to interact with it. The rest of the parts are likely usable.

Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Thank you but ive done a lot of research already...and getting nowhere
thats why i posted this
i need someone that specifically knows the procedure to upgrade firmware on this proprietary machine
nothing more nothing less
this machine has a propreietary pc104 board inside with no visible way to upgrade firmware...some research refers to internal floppy drive
mine has no floppybdrive
labvolt does not know how either
most people that have these machines replaced the proprietary main board with mach3 bob
this requires extensive work and its not, what i want to do at this point
these are very well made machines butbthey use very light duty components because they werecdesigned for training purpose only
they have smaller nema23 270oz steppers....and very low amp chopper drives 2A
they ghave very nice power supply
here is a photo
so if anyone knows how to upgrade the firmware please respond
thank you

Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Looks like a floppy connector and cable in the upper left of the
center photo.
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Negative..that cable is for the lcd front panel control board
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
These machines can be operated manually via front panel but cant be programmed...just turn spindle on and move xyz axis...so inguess i could use them manually worse case scenerio
Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
Did you read the readmeE.txt file include with the downloaded ZIP file?
Detailed instructions therein.

Re: Labvolt 5400 5500 5600 update firmware procedure????
There are USB to Ethernet and possibly USB to Parallel pot convertors. I don't know if they would work in this application, but they are cheap.
But I think you are SOL. There is a reason everyone converts these to Mach or LinuxCNC. With all the time and research you have spent thus far you could have had a working machine today.
That is what I did with my 5400 once I determined the OE setup was unworkable. I sold the components for (almost) enough to buy what I needed and moved on.
