Newbie Routakit SDX
Hello, I am a newbie to CNC Routing, this is my first machine. Weighed all my options and ended up going with a Routakit SDX, whether or not that was the best choice we'll leave for another time. Right now my goal is to actually get this thing up and running. Being a newbie to the entire process, from building, to software, has put me dead in the water. I've gotten through the build process, but when everything is powered up it just sits there like a rock. I would assume that I would even be able to hear some kind of humming mechanical sound, but nothing.
So hear is the low down:
Motors: Openbuild 1.8 /Step
Contoller: PlanetCNC USB controller Mk 3/4
Motor Drivers: Planet CNC MotorDriver 2.5A
Power Supply: Minger 24V
Software: PlanetCNC USB Controller
CAD/CAM: Haven't gotten there yet.
I've enclosed some pictures.
Thanks

Re: Newbie Routakit SDX
Are the motors locked up when powered?
If not, then the drives are disabled or not working.

Re: Newbie Routakit SDX
There is no movement whats so ever in the motors.
I have the most recent PlanetCNC drivers downloaded.
One thing I started wondering about since my first post, does my software need to be activated to work? The Routakit Instructiuons has a guide on putting some preset numbers into the software, but never mentioned anything about downloading. So I just went straight to their website and downloaded the USB Controller software. I figured since I could just download it off of the website that it should be ready to go. I've been seeing some videos in the last few hours where they talk about activation.

Re: Newbie Routakit SDX
I didn't ask if there was movement, I asked if the motors locked up. If the drives are working, you should here a "clunk" when powering the system, and the motors should feel frozen, with the shafts locked.
If the motors are not "locked", then the drives are not working.
I'm not familiar with PlanetCNC, so you'll need to ask them. I'd assume that it would function in some type of demo mode??

Re: Newbie Routakit SDX
When I power up the system there is no clunk, or any sound what so ever. I went over the wiring diagram many times and I feel like its right, but I could be missing something. From the software side of things I have also downloaded Planet CNC's latest driver software.

Re: Newbie Routakit SDX
Sorry for the late comment not sure if you got this resolved. I have a Routakit HD and had a similar problem when I first got it but it was due to the relay connection after I resolved that it started right up. It didn't have anything to do with the software I am running Mach4 with a VFD.
