Basically the touch screen just replaces the mouse. It has nothing to do with the software you're running. Once the screen is working, you just use your finger instead of the mouse.
You can either buy an add-on touch screen, or an actual touch screen monitor.

Another couple of things to watch for if adding on, there is one type for CRT (curved) and flat for LCD.
Also controllers can be RS232 serial port or USB.

Yes,
Basically it is that easy.
There are also several aftermarket user developed Mach3 front ends that have bigger buttons "icons" for touch screen adaptations.
