my AXBB-E and UCSB are on the way, small annoyance is anyone using axbb with mach3?

Hey G'day folks,

After a small wait, my AXBB-E and UCSB are on the DHL train. Small annoyance, the UCCNC program I bought to run the UC100 I am reliably informed will not work with the AXBB-E controller.
Another license is required, sighh.

So back to mach3 I guess, my monthly budget is gone so UCCNC will have to wait if I decide at all to go back to it.

If anyone else has the AXBB-E and running it with mach3 would like to hold up their hand if there are any unexpected pitfalls to look forward to?

The AXBB comes with UCCNC License

That was an introductory special, that quickly sold out.

I must admit I was a bit angry when told the current license I have will only work with the UC100, it is what it is unfortunately. I will play with mach3 I guess.

You still need UCCNC to run mach3 on AXBB-E ...

? I don't understand ? How does that work, you need UCCNC to run Mach3? That doesn't sound right.
UC100 has a plugin for Mach3, which is a standalone software package. UCCNC is the alternative to Mach3 so I'm now confused.

UCCNC is 1/3 the cost of Mach3. Would you be happier paying 3x more, to be able to use it on both machines?

Gerry in answer to that, we are not talking about using a piece of software on 2 machines. Whats being replaced is uc100 for the AXBB one machine. So my humble opinion its a sly grab for cash. It can't be anything else, if you engineer your software to only work with a particular piece of hardware coded to its serial number and not the computers serial number thats not playing nice.

eg When you buy the UC100 its $129 ... well not really is it, you need either mach3 or UCCNC to use it. You may say well mach 3 is three times the price. Not really either. The UC100 isn't really 129 its actually $218 to buy. The software is moot point. You can't use it with anything else. So like in my case every time you decide to upgrade your hardware to the latest newest model, its a PLUS $89 all I need to do is upgrade once more and the cost is the same as Mach3. Actually if I upgrade above that its dearer than Mach3.

Luckily for me I own a license for Mach3, I bought UCCNC because it was not that expensive and I preferred using it.

You don't see anywhere on the web site information which I think would be important say,........ Hey when purchasing this you need to rebuy our software, each time you upgrade your hardware you need to buy our software over and over...

Like I said its only a small annoyance, I thought here comes the hardware, lets fire it up.. No here comes the hardware lets buy the software again.

Once machine to rule them all... lol.

I think I got up the wrong side of bed today.

So if you own a License of UCCNC but are thinking about upgrading the hardware, just budget for some extra.

Sell the UC100 with the license. You should be able to get $100-$125 for it.

You buying stuff without reading it's manual, sighhh. :)

$129 for the UC100 + $60 for the UCCNC is not $218, but $189 only.
Mach3 license costs $175 and you do not get any hardware. You can use the parallel port only for that cost.

Running Mach3 with 2 CNC machines with 2*UC100 costs $175 for 1*Mach3 and $258 for the 2*UC100 = $433. But this is true only if you are a hobbyist because if you do manufacturing for profit then you need 2*Mach3 license keys to legally use it on both machines.
If you are not a hobbyist then the total is $608.

Running UCCNC on 2 CNC machines with 2*UC100 costs $120 for the 2*UCCNC and $258 for the 2*UC100 = $378.

The UC100 works with 3 softwares: UCCNC, Mach3, Mach4. It's up to you which software you buy and use.
The UC100 works with Mach3 and Mach4 demo mode too which does not require a software purchase. it is not true that it doesn't work when you purchasing it for $129. It works but with the demo software limitations until you buying one of the software licenses.

Olf, absolutely right mate I wont argue there. I should have read the manual. Which I did, how to make it work and set it up. Licensing doesn't figure in the setup of cutting my wood. I incorrectly assumed that !!!!! Like most things you can't use it on more than one machine if your going to use it on more than one machine whatever that might be you need another license etc etc etc etc... confronted by that every day and over the years.....

I'm a hobbyist, the chances of me or a lot of people running two machines at the one time I think is not common unless you are manufacturing.

I like the product Balazs produces, I have a perfectly good G540, due to the fact that I like his product I liked the idea of using cat5 for communication faster better? newer dunno till you run it you don't know in principle its ok on paper.

I made another NOT SO small purchase for more of his hardware. I'm only doing this to run my 4th axis, I found a solution that works for me with the G540 but I thought an upgrade a good idea.

You tend to support the people you like and their products.

When you load up UCCNC your asked what piece of equipment you will be using. Can't use both the UC100 and the AXBB at the same time from the one PC thats why I never bothered to look at the licensing. You can always code the software to run from the installed Mac address.

Anyways your right my fault should have read the licensing a little closer.

Doesn't help me be not annoyed, I guess where I'm most annoyed is in the process of purchasing the hardware, I've asked the questions what else do I need, you could use a UCSB ok lets have one of those. You will need to have drivers for the steppers ok have purchased those. No where in the conversation was there a ... As your buying new hardware you will also need another copy of UCCNC. Its not the money, I had it to spend it.

That's my irritation.

Gerry and you are right I could sell it but I won't I'd rather gift it to one of my mates that could use he has a small hobby machine as well it may improve his lot. But I should read the license before I do that LOL... to make sure I can sell it with the UC100.. :P
